Braces for Kids in Tribeca, NYC

In short: Braces for kids are orthodontic appliances that guide teeth and jaws into healthy alignment. At Tribeca Dental Studio 4 Kids, our pediatric dentist and orthodontist evaluate your child's bite, jaw growth, and airway together — then recommend braces only when they are the right fit for your child.

I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky. Parents ask me all the time: does my child actually need braces, or is something else going on? Here's how I think about it. Braces are a tool — a good one — but they're not the starting point. The starting point is an evaluation: bite, spacing, crowding, jaw growth, and the airway. When braces are the right answer for your child, we do them here, under one roof, with a pediatric dentist and an orthodontist working as one team.

What braces for kids actually do

Braces move teeth and guide jaw development. But in my practice, they come after the full picture — never as a default.

Evaluation before appliances.

Comprehensive orthodontic care may use braces or clear aligners when appropriate to address bite and tooth-position concerns. We determine which fits your child at the evaluation — not before.

Phase 1 comes first when it's needed.

Phase 1 orthodontics — guided jaw expansion, crossbite correction, space maintenance — addresses growth while it's still happening. For some children, this early work changes what comprehensive treatment looks like later.

One team, one roof.

Our pediatric dentist and orthodontist collaborate under one roof in Tribeca. Your child doesn't bounce between offices or get two conflicting plans.

Airway checks at every exam.

Mouth breathing red flags are watched at every exam, because snoring in children is often a sign of a restricted airway. Jaw growth and breathing go together — we treat them that way.

How braces treatment works here

No surprises. Here's the path from first question to finished smile.

01

The orthodontic evaluation

We look at bite, spacing, crowding, jaw growth, and airway. Radiographs only when clinically useful. Then we talk — plainly — about what we see and what options fit your child's situation.

02

Phase 1 if the timing is right

For children still growing, early guided jaw expansion, crossbite correction, or space maintenance can shape development before comprehensive treatment. Not every child needs it — we say so when they don't.

03

Comprehensive care when appropriate

When the time is right, comprehensive care may use braces or clear aligners to address bite and tooth-position concerns. We explain which option fits and why, in terms you can actually understand.

04

Monitoring and finishing

Regular visits track progress. And because the pediatric dentist and orthodontist work together, cleanings and prevention stay on schedule through treatment.

Myobrace and early habits

Some young patients wear Myobrace — a removable appliance worn 1–2 hours a day plus overnight — that corrects mouth breathing, low tongue posture, and tongue-thrust swallowing. It's not braces, and it's not for every child. But when the issue is habit and growth rather than alignment, addressing it early can change the whole picture.

Comfort is part of the plan

Orthodontics should never be something your child dreads. Kid-friendly words, honest explanations, and a pace your child can handle — that's how we run every visit, braces or not.

Braces questions parents ask me

01When should my child first be evaluated for braces?

Around age 7 is the standard first orthodontic checkup — not because treatment starts then, but because it's the right time to spot growth patterns, crossbites, and crowding early. The evaluation guides timing, not sales.

02Will my child need braces or clear aligners?

It depends on the evaluation. Comprehensive orthodontic care may use braces or clear aligners when appropriate to address bite and tooth-position concerns. We explain which option fits your child's situation and why.

03What's Phase 1 orthodontics?

Phase 1 is early treatment while your child is still growing — guided jaw expansion, crossbite correction, and space maintenance. It shapes development so comprehensive treatment later is simpler, or sometimes unnecessary.

04Do you do everything in one office?

Yes. Our pediatric dentist and orthodontist collaborate under one roof in Tribeca — one team, one plan, no bouncing between offices.

05Does my child need X-rays before braces?

Radiographs only when clinically useful. If we need imaging to plan, we explain why — and if we don't, we skip them.
