Pediatric Dentist in New York City

A pediatric dentist is a dentist who specializes in children's teeth, jaw growth, and behavior — from the first tooth through the teen years. If you're searching for a pediatric dentist in New York, you're really asking: who do I trust with my child's mouth, their growth, and their fears? I'm Dr. Nina Izhaky, and I built Tribeca Dental Studio 4 Kids in Manhattan to answer exactly that.

Here's what I believe: kids are not small adults. Their teeth erupt and fall out on their own schedule, their jaws are still growing, and their cooperation depends entirely on trust. A pediatric dentist reads growth patterns, spots habits like thumb sucking or teeth grinding early, and knows when to watch, when to treat, and when to bring in the orthodontist.

Everything under one roof at 54 Warren Street

Our Manhattan office covers the full range: checkups and cleanings, fluoride and sealants, fillings, crowns, pulp therapy, extractions, and space maintainers — plus orthodontics, with braces and clear aligners for teens, and palatal expanders for growing jaws. Bite, alignment, and jaw growth are evaluated together with dental health. One team, one plan — no referrals across town for orthodontics.

New for 2026: laser dentistry and a full anesthesiologist

Two additions changed what our office can do this year. Pediatric laser dentistry means gentler cavity and soft-tissue treatment — often with less anesthesia and faster recovery. Anxious kids do noticeably better with the laser. And for special-needs children, we work with a full anesthesiologist: with careful advance planning, all of your child's dental work is completed in a single same-day visit. I want to be honest about this — the planning is extensive; the treatment day is one visit.

Airway-aware at every exam

Mouth breathing red flags are watched at every exam, because snoring in children is often a sign of a restricted airway. Teeth, jaws, and breathing develop together. If I see something — mouth breathing, grinding, restless sleep — I'll tell you what it can signal, and an evaluation determines what to do next. I don't diagnose from across the room; we look together.

The first visit

By the first birthday, or when the first tooth appears. Comfort first — your child rides the chair, looks around, maybe gets a gentle polish. No drills, no pressure. Kid-friendly words, and we never force.

If it's an emergency

Call (212) 561-5303. A knocked-out permanent tooth has its best chance when treated within 30 to 60 minutes: pick it up by the crown, never the root, rinse gently without scrubbing, keep it moist in milk, and call us right away. Our emergency pediatric dental care is built for exactly these moments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a pediatric dentist do differently?

A pediatric dentist specializes in children's teeth, jaw growth, behavior, and development. We use kid-friendly words and comfort-focused visits — we never force — and we watch airway and growth patterns a general dentist may miss.

When should my child first see a dentist?

By the first birthday, or when the first tooth appears — whichever comes first. Early visits are about comfort and prevention, not treatment.

Do you treat children with special needs?

Yes. We work with a full anesthesiologist for special-needs children — with careful advance planning, all of your child's dental work is completed in a single same-day visit. The planning is extensive; the treatment day is one visit.
